Transcription - basic principle

Transcription process mRNA: Product of transcription Termination: When RNA polymerase reaches termination sequence, it comes off the DNA strand, transcription is complete and mRNA is ready Elongation: RNA polymerase moves along DNA strand in 3' to 5' direction; as it moves, complimentary nucleotides are added to build mRNA in 5' to 3' direction Initiation: RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region located before the gene (DNA sequence to be copied)

Transcription - prokaryote vs. eukaryote
